About the App
ShockWave is an innovative iOS Synthesizer that offers a modular-style workflow, perfect for both beginners and experienced music producers. This monophonic Synth Voice is designed to cover a wide range of sounds using its advanced features. At its core is Phase Distortion Synthesis, which allows users to create unique tones using PD Oscillators. These powerful oscillators can produce a variety of sounds, including pure Sine Waves, smooth Sawtooth and Square Waves, as well as exciting Resonance and Sync sweeps, filtered Noise, and more.
In addition to the Synth Voice, ShockWave includes a dedicated control section that features two 8 Step Sequencers. These sequencers can work independently or combine into one 16 Step Sequence. This flexibility offers independent control over the rate and length of each sequencer, enhancing your creative options. The app also boasts a Control Randomness Module, which adds unpredictability to your patterns, along with a Sample & Hold Module, Trigger Divider, and Logic Comparisons to refine your sound design.
Users will find a pair of Low Frequency Oscillators (LFOs) and two Attack/Sustain/Release (ASR) Envelopes within ShockWave, serving as essential modulation sources. These envelopes can be triggered by various internal sources, such as the trigger divider or logic modules. In true modular style, these envelopes can even be connected to one another, enabling a range of creative patches typically found in large modular systems. The LFOs are also tempo syncable and can produce 5 different waveforms each, providing enhanced modulation capabilities.
The modular nature of ShockWave extends to its controls, where almost any parameter can be modulated with up to 11 modulation sources at the same time. Setting up these modulations is simple; just hold a control and adjust it with the desired amount from a list of sources. Additionally, the special X-Ray mode provides a realtime display of active modulations, helping you visualize what’s happening inside the synthesizer.
To enrich your sounds, ShockWave incorporates built-in Delay and Reverb Effects, located on send busses. All controls, including send levels, are available as modulation destinations, giving you even more creative flexibility.
MIDI Implementation is robust in ShockWave, supporting aftertouch, velocity, and custom CC mappings. It is also compatible with MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) controllers like the Roli Seaboard and Linnstrument. This means you can enjoy up to four dimensions of expression, enhancing your performance.
Moreover, ShockWave offers Note and Control Change Output, allowing you to control external MIDI gear or chain multiple plugin instances for intricate patches. You can generate MIDI output from various internal sources like Sequencers, Envelopes, and LFOs, giving you extensive control over your setup.
The app features a Semi Modular Architecture, perfect for those looking to explore a variety of sounds. It includes a Quantizer Module to enforce specific scales, with options for 19 predetermined scales or your own custom scales. With two color themes available, users can choose a look that fits their style.
Whether you're a hobbyist or a professional musician, ShockWave provides all the tools necessary for sound exploration. With independent sequencer control, dual ASR envelopes, tempo sync capabilities, cross modulation techniques, and filtered noise generation, it’s equipped to help you create unique sonic experiences. The built-in effects and extensive modulation options allow for creative experimentation, making ShockWave a flexible and powerful addition to any music-making toolkit. Enjoy the innovative features and discover the endless possibilities within this iOS Synthesizer.
