FontStack is a unique AUv3 plugin for iOS that seamlessly integrates with your favorite Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), allowing you to explore and use the wonderful SF2 SoundFonts you've collected over the years. The SoundFont standard, established in the early 90s, gained popularity thanks to the SoundBlaster series of sound cards. The introduction of the Amiga led to various musical creation tools known as Trackers, which enabled users to load these SoundFonts and compose intricate musical scores with up to eight tracks.

While the SoundFont standard may not be as commonly used today, there is still a treasure trove of free SF2 files available online, just waiting for you to load them into FontStack. A SoundFont is a file with an .sf2 extension that contains a collection of samples, instruments, and presets. With FontStack, you can load one or more SoundFonts into its 4 SoundFont Layers, giving you a wealth of creative options.

You can stack layers to create a rich mix of multiple tones, or assign each layer its own key range on the keyboard for effective key range splitting. Each layer can also be assigned its own MIDI channel, creating a true OMNI mode to enhance your musical performance.

One standout feature of FontStack is its ability to cache all your SoundFonts and the instruments they contain. This soundfont caching allows for quick searching of specific instruments without the hassle of digging through various SoundFonts. You'll save time and effort, making your creative process smoother.

FontStack also enables remote SoundFont access. You can link to a global SoundFont folder that contains a set of SoundFonts sharable between apps. Both internal and external SoundFonts, along with their instruments, will be cached, and searching for them is just as easy as using internal SoundFonts.

With FontStack, you have 4 SoundFont Layers to work with, allowing for incredible layering options and musical diversity. Each layer can host up to 6 Scenes, each containing different SoundFont instruments and settings. This gives you the flexibility to create various keyboard split configurations, spreading multiple SoundFonts across the keyboard.

Another fascinating aspect is the ability to stack multiple SoundFonts, which produces a thicker sound that enriches your compositions. Disk streaming functionality allows you to stream a SoundFont directly from disk, saving valuable physical memory during your projects.

FontStack includes a file manager that facilitates local file management as well as remote file management, enabling you to handle all your SoundFont needs easily. The instrument search feature helps you quickly find the sounds you're looking for, whether they’re stored locally or remotely.

Adding sounds to your projects is simple. You can easily drag and drop SoundFonts into the SoundFont manager. Each instrument layer can also have various effects applied to it, such as reverb effects, delay effects, and chorus effects for SoundFonts, adding depth and character to your music.

For those using mono samples, FontStack offers stereo width simulation to enhance your sound. You’ll have the ability to directly control the amp envelope and filter settings for SoundFonts, giving you precise control over your sound design.
