Backyard Football '99 brings the excitement of football right to your screen, now enhanced to work on modern systems. You can dive into the game whether you're choosing your dream team with stars like Jerry Rice and Barry Sanders or rushing the field with Pete Wheeler. You can even score touchdowns with Pablo Sanchez while enjoying the witty banter from hosts Sunny Day and Chuck Downfield. The controls are simple, making it easy for anyone to play and enjoy football.

There are several game modes to choose from. In Single Game mode, you can play on five different backyard fields with unique weather conditions. You also get to design your team logos and jump straight into a pick-up game! If you want a longer challenge, try Season Mode. Here, you can draft seven players from a roster of 30 iconic Backyard Sports characters, plus legendary pros like John Elway, Dan Marino, Randall Cunningham, Drew Bledsoe, and Steve Young. You will compete against 15 other teams in the Backyard Football League, going through a 14-game season. By the end, the top four division champions and four wild card teams will enter the Backyard Football League Playoffs to fight for the coveted Super Colossal Cereal Bowl!

As you play, you'll have the chance to earn classic power-ups. On offense, you might use the Hocus Pocus play, where your receiver teleports downfield, or the Sonic Boom run play that stuns the opposing team. The Leap Frog running back play also allows your player to leap down the field, while the powerful Super Punt technique can change the game. On defense, you can execute maneuvers like the Cough Drop, which makes the opponent fumble upon being tackled, or the Chameleon trick play that causes your team to wear the other team’s colors, adding an element of confusion. Don’t forget the Spring Loaded sack, which gives your player the ability to leap over the line to tackle the quarterback.
