MuseBud is a generative MIDI sequencer that allows you to create musical notes based on your choices. You can customize the chances for every aspect, such as notes, octaves, note lengths, velocities, gate lengths, and ratchet counts. This means you can truly shape the music to fit your style.

In MuseBud, every mode—note, octave, duration, velocity, gate, and ratchet—has its specific settings. Using the fader UI controls on the main screen, you can set how likely each option is to be selected when the engine produces notes. If there are aspects you don't want to include, simply assign them a 0% chance to ensure they never play. For quick adjustments, you can use the draw mode feature, along with buttons to set all parameters to "All 0%" or "All 100%" quickly.

When you press the play button in MuseBud, whether in the standalone version or as an AUv3 plugin within an AUv3 host app, it continuously generates notes in real time. The looping functionality is especially useful as it records up to 64 notes in its buffer, enabling you to loop back to your favorite sections easily. You can set the start point and step count for looping in the buffer. When you activate the looper, it stops generating new notes and instead plays back the selected sequence. If you want MuseBud to start generating new notes again, just stop the looper.

Editing steps in the looper is simple. Just tap on the step you want to change, and you can choose an action from the popup menu that appears. Inside the step editor, you can modify the properties assigned by the engine, like note, duration, octave, velocity, gate length, and ratchet counts. This flexibility allows for detailed note parameters adjustment.

MuseBud lets you create a variety of customizable patterns, each with its own independent looper buffer. When you start a new pattern, it will automatically duplicate the current pattern, so you can create different loops without losing your original randomization settings.

In note mode, you can include "Rest" (no note) along with all the notes in your chosen scale. Changing the key or scale is straightforward, either through the settings menu or by using the BrainBud app integration. You can adjust octave settings between -1 and +9. Note lengths can vary from as long as 4 bars to as short as a 1/64th note. The MIDI velocity range can be adjusted between 0 and 127. Plus, there's a fader grouping button to make fast assignments easier across the board.

Gate length settings can range from 0% to 100%, and this feature is also streamlined with the fader grouping button in gate mode. For ratchet count adjustments, you can set it anywhere from 1 (no ratchets) to up to 4 repeats, adding even more variety to your sequences.

For the best experience with MuseBud, fine-tuning your settings is key. You might consider excluding some parameters to get more precise control over your music. Keep in mind that MuseBud is a MIDI app and does not produce sound by itself. To hear the output, you'll need to route MuseBud's MIDI output to the MIDI input of your audio app. This can easily be done with various AUv3 host apps like AUM, Loopy Pro, Logic Pro, Cubasis, Nanostudio, or apeMatrix.
