KV331 Audio is excited to introduce SynthMaster 2, an award-winning iOS software synthesizer that is now available on iPads running iOS 11 and later. This app is the first to use KV331 Audio’s new cross-platform UI framework. It can be used as a standalone app or as an AUv3 plugin, allowing for flexibility in music creation.

SynthMaster 2 is compatible with various iPad models, offering native resolutions. Users can choose from four different user interface skins: Blue, White, Dark, and Proto. For those using it as an AudioUnit plugin, SynthMaster 2 provides separate interfaces designed for a smooth experience.

The app comes packed with 1000 factory presets crafted by notable sound designers including BigTone, Nori Ubukata, NatLife, and Yuli Yolo. With its easy-to-use preset browsing feature, users can quickly filter presets based on author name, bank name, instrument type, or preset name, helping them find the sounds they want.

For those looking to expand their library further, SynthMaster 2 offers an IAP Shop for sounds. Users can enhance their experience with the Desktop Presets Upgrade, which adds all factory presets in SynthMaster 2.9, raising the total preset count to 2000. There's also the All Expansions Bundle, which includes all 38 current SynthMaster preset expansion banks.

At the core of SynthMaster 2 lies a powerful sound engine that features oscillators, modulators, and sound filters. The oscillators operate in four distinct modes. In Basic mode, users can play single cycle waveforms or samples, and with the unison feature, up to eight voices can be played per oscillator. Additive mode allows for stacking of eight Basic oscillators to create richer tones. In Wavetable mode, users can explore wavetables with up to 256 frames. Finally, Vector mode combines four Basic oscillators in two dimensions.

Modulators in SynthMaster 2 serve as basic oscillators that can connect to other oscillators or modulate their phases, which allows for the creation of complex FM tones. Users can also import wave files into SynthMaster 2 during sound design. The app efficiently categorizes those files into waveforms, wavetables, or multi samples.

Once sound is generated by the oscillators, it passes through a set of filters. These filters can be categorized into six types: Digital, VAnalog, Ladder, Diode Ladder, State Variable, and Bite. Users can also apply custom distortion effects before or after these filters for unique sound shaping.

SynthMaster 2 features a well-designed modulation architecture, offering a variety of modulation sources like MIDI control modulation and ADSR envelopes. Each layer has four ADSR envelopes available, as well as four LFOs, four multisegmented envelopes, four key scalers, and four sequencers. This comprehensive setup makes it easy to create rich sound designs. Users can also enjoy real-time visual feedback, which shows how modulation sources and targets interact while a note is played.

Creating new modulations is straightforward—users can drag and drop a modulation source onto a control knob or slider to set it up. To check which controls are modulated by a source, simply click on that source, and the affected controls will display the modulation amounts. Long-pressing a control allows users to edit the modulation amount without diving into the modulation matrix.

Furthermore, SynthMaster includes a comprehensive arpeggiator and sequencer with 32 steps. Users can easily create sequences by recording steps one by one. Each of the two layers in SynthMaster has five effect insert slots, allowing for a range of sounds. There are 13 types of effects that can be used within these slots. Additionally, two global effect send busses are available for more complex effect routing setups.
